They had stopped dreaming, and the Mission gave them the chance to dream.

“I was in the army. When the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991, there was a real danger of civil war in Moldova. Hundreds died in the struggle between the Romanian and Russian regions of the country. We were very nervous that it would escalate further, but fortunately, it ended and I was able to leave the army.”
